English Language Arts Teacher (K through 2nd)

General Description:
Responsible for English Language Arts for Kindergarten, 1st & 2nd grade.
Experience in curriculum development and diverse teaching strategies.
Willing to learn French and work in a rural community.
Minimum Requirements:
Has at least a bachelor’s degree and is working towards teaching certification and license in subject teaching.
Uses data to inform decisions and is achievement driven.
Has demonstrated mastery of lesson planning and long-term planning.
Has an outstanding behavior management and investment system.
Has demonstrated mastery in time-management skills.
Has exceptional problem-solving skills and values feedback.
Has knowledge of the Common Core within their content area.
Encourages and promotes positive relationships among staff, parents and students.
Is open to constructive feedback.
Preferred Qualifications:
5-10 years of experience in elementary education.
Excellent communication skills, oral and written.
Detail oriented with excellent interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in Google suite, Microsoft Office, and JCampus. Willing to learn Academic programs such as DIBELS, Smarty Ants, etc.
Highly organized and meticulous about records, documentation, and accuracy
Preferably Speaks French.
Job Duties:
Curriculum and Instruction
Create classroom goals pertaining to academic long-term instruction.
Plan and execute the year’s curriculum, lessons and learning objectives while aligning to the Louisiana Student standards to assure student learning.
Provide differentiated instruction to ensure the needs of all types of learners and students.
Provide direct instruction and small group instruction.
Develop, prepare, and implement all materials needed for instruction daily.
Prepare and implement all materials needed for instruction daily.
Work to ensure that all IEP and 504 goals are being met.
Record grades, report attendance and complete report cards as needed..
Data Analysis and Achievement
Provide data driven instruction with support from the school leader,
Assess student learning and checking for mastery with daily informal assessments, weekly quizzes and unit tests, among other examples of assessments that are aligned to the Louisiana State Standards.
Hold bi-weekly subject level data meetings that are centered around outcomes for meeting student needs and improving instruction.
School Culture and Parent Engagement
Follow both staff and student handbooks.
Provide parents with regular feedback through mid-year parent-teacher conferences (or as needed), phone calls once a month, progress reports, report cards and other communication as needed.
Invest in students and learn the culture of the community and school.
Follow student and staff discipline policies
Promote students’ character development in a positive classroom environment set by the school PBIS program. Establish an atmosphere of educational community that nurtures and challenges students to become more curious, kind, empathetic, and engaged.
Effectively work as a team.
Take on leadership responsibilities within the school.
Be committed to growing professionally through consistent feedback from the school leader, academic studies, and professional development.
This is a position that includes all benefits afforded to Louisiana State employees including a choice of one of five Medical benefit plans with options of additional supplemental insurance plans. École Pointe-au-Chien is a free public school based in Pointe-aux-Chênes and governed by an independent state board with a French immersion curriculum consistent with Louisiana state standards and rooted in our local bayou Indian and Cajun French culture. École Pointe-au-Chien opened Fall of 2023 for grades K and 1st, will add Pre-K and 2nd in the school year 2023-24, 3rd grade in 2025-25, and 4th grade in 2025-2026.
